Hung, Drawn and Quartered gives an insight into the lives of British service men and women stationed throughout the world as Avent convey a little comfort and normality by transforming part of their base into a little piece of home. Where R&R doesn't stand for rest and recreation but for re-vamp and refurbish. We meet the characters, experience the real life situations and get a taste of what life is actually like, while serving in the British Forces.
The Hung, Drawn and Quartered presenters Craig Phillips and Carolyn "Wob" Eeles visit different British Forces locations throughout the world and are presented with a DIY and Design challenge to tackle with the support of the resident servicemen and women. The DIY and Design jobs chosen have significant impact on the residents' lifestyle and comfort, giving us an idea of the real life environments in which the British Forces operate.
In the space of two days Craig, Wob and the service men and women transform an area within the barracks (a bar, a gym, a mess hall etc) to dramatic effect. To add to the overall appearance of the transformation the troops are given the opportunity to win a top up prize for their squad if they can complete a set task. Their challenges involve taking on Craig as part of a successful team within a set military related assignment, ranging from a tank squad tackling an assault course in Canada to marines aggressively boarding battleships in Scotland. Each task is monitored and "refereed" by Wob. If the team are successful then they are given a reward to add to the make over, ranging from a wide screen TV for a Gym to a Karaoke machine for a bar area.
By setting the tasks we explore the natural competitive nature of the troops and also promote the very essence of what the services are all about, organisation and team-work. This gives enormous insight into the work and training that is involved in the British Forces. While at the same time displaying the "wow" factor associated with the DIY/Design projects. |
